ITTT FAQs – Can I get a work visa to teach English in Germany?
Germany is a popular destination for teachers looking to teach English as a foreign language. There are plenty of opportunities throughout the country but it can be difficult for non-European citizens to get the necessary visa to stay long-term. That said, it is possible if you are able to meet the specific criteria. Australians, New Zealanders and Canadians are able to apply for working holiday visas but U.S. and other non-EU citizens have fewer options when it comes to living and working in Germany. For EU citizens it is relatively straightforward to live and work in Germany as no visa is required.
