Chinese New Year is the most important holiday of the year in China. It is so important that Chinese people are off work for an entire week to return to their families in their hometowns. The family reunion dinner is therefore the most important part of the celebrations. Most families prepare different dishes, such as dumplings, at home and have the whole family over. Traditionally, firecrackers are lit making as much noise as possible to chase off evil spirits.
